It’s March, and this is the time of year I dread. It’s close enough to spring but definitely not warm enough (at least where I am). It’s also the time of year we are bombarded by swimsuit catalogs, storefront mannequins clad in summer shorts and barely there “bikinis”, diets, and fitness products. In addition to this, we all realize we have a few pounds to shed so that we can look good in all those clothes in the storefronts. Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t necessarily put this sort of thing in my budget. However, if it is a priority of yours and your trolling this website for some insight (pardon the rhyme…I just had to) here are a few suggestions.
Have you been to Wal-Mart lately, I’m sure you have, and noticed that the fitness section is a bit bigger this time of year? Well, this is not your eyes or your hips playing mental games with you. As a merchandiser, I’ll teach you something about retail “seasons”. As soon as the holiday garland comes down, and Santa retreats back to the North Pole, we put guilt on the shelves in the form of fitness DVD’s, equipment and anything low fat, low-calorie, and low-carb. IT’S A MIND GAME, and it works. Your just spent a boat load of money and spent the last 2 months of the calendar year baking items to indulge in. The last thing in your mind is to shop, so the retail industry feeds on anything to get you back out there doing just that, spending.
Well if you’re like me, I don’t like working out, but I do it. And, I really don’t like having to spend money on DVD’s that show perky, perfect bodies doing things mine just laughs at. Which is why they invented Pilates. The view from the mat is great, and you use your own body resistance. So, your actually working out while just feeling like your doing heavy stretches. Now, a few weeks ago I stumbled upon a website I’m really growing to like; www.fitnessmagazine.com. This is a free website that is dedicated to fitness, of course. You can now be your own personal trainer; build your own workout video based on target spots, cook healthier meals with their recipes, get workout play lists for your ipod, and even get beauty advice from what to wear while working out to a quick makeup routine. All this for just signing up for their website.
From there is found the site www.myshape.com, and I really like this site, you take all your measurements and they find clothes and outfits for you based on shape and measurements, not conventional sizes. The clothes are fashionable and designer labels, so it isn’t something I think I will be using a lot. However, it gave me an idea of what I should be looking for when I do go shopping and what sizes I should grab while there. This may not be the way you like to shop but personally I don’t enjoy shopping, because my body isn’t shaped like the skinny French fry most clothes are molded on. So, I get discouraged. Now, this site teaches about your shape and what styles would look good on you based on measurements, style and your tastes. Their registration is a bit lengthy due to the 20 or so measurements you have to take, but they walk you through each of them. Once you finish, you get to look at outfits and clothes they chose for you from trendy to classic, you could just browse or you can buy the outfits they have chosen. While I was looking at some of the outfits they chose I noticed they had sizes already picked, these are picked based on each designer’s measurements. This reinforces the fact they aren’t just picking sizes. And, this also is a free site.
Hopefully, you will share the same success with these websites. Just remember, walk right past the fitness aisle at Wal-Mart and resist the urge to pay for a membership at the fitness club. Instead, peruse these website and save a few dollars on workout DVD’s, all the while seeing which new fashions will look the best on you.
