13 Ways to Save Money Around Your House

  1. Start using Cloth Napkins, the cost to wash these is very minimal compared to the price of paper napkins, let alone the waste they create.
  2. Get a Programmable thermostat.  That way, while your not home or asleep you can bump the temperature down a few degrees, therefore saving on your fuel and power bill.
  3. “TURN THE LIGHTS OFF!” Our parents knew what they were talking about, and I can still hear my grandfather screaming theses words through their house on visits.
  4. Cut your Phone Bill, you can do this by minimizing your land line phone service to basic/local service only.  **This only works if you have a “call anywhere” package on your cell phone.
  5. Switch out Light bulbs.  Change all your incandescent bulbs to compact fluorescents.  The bulbs are a bit pricy at the start but, they can last years!
  6. Install a Motion Sensor for outdoor lighting, or use solar, if you can.
  7. Eat at home.
  8. Take advantage of B.O.G.O offers at the grocery store.
  9. Cancel your Premium Cable package, (see my post “Movie night on a Budget”) besides, everyone complains that with 100 channels there is still nothing to watch and most networks have their shows online.
  10. Install a low flow shower head, it will reduce the amount of water you and your family use during showers.
  11. Do your laundry in COLD water, it will save your colors as well as your electricity.
  12. Start a compost pile & recycle.  Composting will put your food scraps to better use than in the garbage, and makes your soil much healthier.  Recycling will also reduce the amount of garbage you put out.
  13. Brew your own coffee or bring a refillable cup with you.  Most convenience stores will sell you coffee at a reduced rate if you use your own travel mug.

These are just a few simple things you can do around your house to save a few dollars a year.

Pretty great entry, really informative information. Never considered I’d find the info I would like in this article. I’ve been hunting everywhere in the web for some time now and had been starting to get irritated. Fortunately, I stumbled onto your site and got exactly what I had been hunting for.
